Project news

Aim of the G-EPIC intervention

• To increase the Political self-efficacy of disadvantaged girls in Year 9 in schools in England.

We understand Political self-efficacy as having five different dimensions:

A. Improving Self-Confidence in Knowledge and Understanding of Politics
B. Broadening the understanding of what is politics and reduce resistance to using and engaging with the word ‘politics’
C. Improving self-confidence in political activities in school
D. Improving self-confidence in political activities outside of school and participating in political activities in the future.
E. Challenging preconceptions and stereotypes of social roles in politics

The qualitative and quantitative results suggested some learning on each outcome. The quantitative results indicated statistically significant changes in particular on learning outcome A. The least progress was on learning outcome D. Overall this is a positive outcome from the pilot and similar results were achieved in our partner country, Belgium who undertook a similar 5 lesson plan.
