About G-EPIC

Gender Empowerment Through Politics In the Classroom (G-EPIC) is a 3-year European project funded by the European Commission that will be held in 6 European countries (Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Spain and the UK).

"The project aims to conduct research in schools (second year secondary) to identify successful classroom teaching practices that support the development of pupils' confidence in their own opinions and future civic engagement."

Our focus is on supporting the confidence of girls who are at the first year of their secondary school trajectory. Indeed, research has shown that young girls' political self-concept grows less (and even declines) in contrast to that of boys at the same age. This is not a given as the same research shows that class composition and the prevailing school climate have an impact on girls' political confidence and self-concept.

Through statistical research, observations, quasi-experiments and the construction of materials, the project aims to empower all pupils through growth trajectories in secondary education.
