About G-EPIC

The G-EPIC is an evidence-based programme that has been piloted, refined, and implemented in 45 schools by 46 teachers for 1,340 students across Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, England, and Germany. The findings across all five countries show that the programme has demonstrated notable success in:

  • Enhancing students' political self-efficacy.
  • Broadening their understanding of politics.
  • Fostering confidence in political engagement

The G-EPIC programme is a set of five classroom sessions designed for Year 9 students (aged 14), particularly girls from the most disadvantaged backgrounds, to increase their confidence in engaging in politics. The programme focuses on five learning outcomes, which are

  • Improving self-confidence in knowledge and understanding of politics,
  • Broadening the understanding of what politics is and reducing resistance to using and engaging with the word ‘politics’,
  • Improving self-confidence in political activities in school,
  • Improving self-confidence in political activities outside of school and participating in political activities in the future, and
  • Challenging preconceptions and stereotypes of social roles in politics.

The five-week intervention covers topics such as:

1. What is politics?
2. How do I fit into politics?
3. How do I create change?
4. How will we create change?
5. Performing change
