Irena Smetackova works as an associate professor at Faculty of Education, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic. Her background covers psychology, pedagogy and sociology. Currently, she is the head of the department of psychology. She teaches mainly social psychology and educational psychology within studying programs of psychology and within teacher training programs.
In her research, Irena Smetackova is focused on three areas: a) gender socialization in school and gender equality in education, b) psychological factors inhibiting or facilitating learning, c) teacher professional development.
Irena Smetackova is a member of the Czech Government Council for Gender Equality and the Ministry of Education Working group for Gender Equality.
