Dr Athina Mara is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Roehampton (London, UK). Athina is an experienced qualitative researcher, social media and policy discourse analyst and M&E expert, with strong collaborations with various consortiums on several European and International research projects, NGOs and the civic society. Her recent research activity includes UNICEF’s Measuring Life Skills and Citizenship Education in the Middle East and North Africa project and the Horizon 2020 Digital Integrated System for the Social Support of Migrants and Refugees project.
Athina Mara’s research focuses on sociology, social policy, gender, sexuality, kinship, migration, (in) equalities, and integration on EU societies. In 2021 Athina’s doctorate dissertation on same-sex parenting rights, socio-legal attitudes and revendications in Greece was awarded with summa cum laude distinctions from the Department of Social Policy of Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (Greece). She holds an MSc in Social Policy and Social Interventions from Utrecht University (The Netherlands) and a Honors BSc in Sociology from Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (Greece).
